Angela Davis was a leader of the Communist Party USA in the 1960s. She's an advocate of prisoner rights and co-founded Critical Resistance, and organization working to abolish the prison-industrial complex. In 1969 then Governor of California, Ronald Regan, requested that Davis be barred from teaching at any university in California due to her affiliation with the Communist Party. Davis currently conducts research on feminism, African-American studies, critical theory, and social consciousness.
